Agave salmiana var. ferox

This impressive and attractive Agave comes from the Mexican regions of Guanajuato, Oaxaca and Puebla and produces a compact and well-structured rosette of broad, dark green to gray green leaves. Fully grown, it can reach a height of 3 m (10 ft.). This striking plant is perfect for dry subtropical climates and does well with regular watering and fertilization. It is also tolerant of some drought and light freezes. In Mexico, it is the primary source for the production of Pulque and Mezcal, and it has recently gained recognition as a top-quality supplier of Agave nectar, a natural, low-glycemic sweetener.
