A unique, medium to large sized plant found in Oaxaca and Puebla, Mexico, featuring large wide leaves with distinctive pale blue and grayish green stripes. In Puebla there is an endemic variety that grows and is known as Pichomel instead of Tepeztate. Agave marmotata is a long lived agave, nearly twice as long as other agaves reaching the ripe age of 20+ years. Due to its rarity and long life this mezcal can fetch a high price. This agave is highly resilient in dry conditions and can withstand light freezing temperatures.
The flavor of this mezcal tends to be full bodied from beginning to end and lacks the famous burn of many alcohols or other mezcals.
