Agave angustifolia - Espadin

The Agave angustifolia, or Espadin, is a highly sought-after plant, originating from southern Mexico. Its high sugar qualities and ease of cultivation have made it a popular choice for Mezcal growers .

The scientific name refers to it's long slender leaves for which it is known. This cultivar thrives in a variety of climates and is very adaptable to a multitude of growing conditions, particularly in warm temperate and tropical climates without hard frost. The Pina requires roughly 7-10 years to reach maturity.

An easy comparison what Agave tequiliana is to Tequila, Agave angustofolia is to Mezcal, however Agave angustofolia makes up nearly 80% of all Mezcal.
